About the Bridges of Ottawa Blog

Ottawa became the capital city of the Province of Canada in 1857 – ten years before Canada became an independent country. Situated where the Rideau River and Rideau Canal empty into the Ottawa River, the growth and development of Ottawa has always been influenced by these waterways. From the 19th century to the present, bridges spanning these waterways have kept pace with and in some cases have led the growth of the city. This blog showcases Ottawa’s bridges from a historical perspective through to the role they play today in connecting communities.

About Me

I am a long term resident of Ottawa, Canada’s capital city. I am also an avid photographer and feel very lucky to live in this beautiful city. Bridges have always fascinated me…. as innocuous constructs for citizens, sometimes taken for granted in daily commutes, while at the same time representing monuments to human achievement.
